The Drummer Heroes!

      The drummer, is the guardian of the beat, the heartbeat of the band. Along with bass, both of them has significant role to maintain the beat of the song, and keeper of the rhythm. They keep the beat up, while the guitar doing solo, or emphasized the riff of the song with their strike on the snare, bass, toms or on the hihats, crash, and splash cymbals. 

      Though their position is in the back, but their sounds would catch our ears immediately. They responsible to make a song recognizable.Through their speed-play with double bass pedals or swing/sway around on melancholic song. Here's my lists of favorite drummers along the time..enjoy!

#Mike Portnoy, (Michael Stephen Portnoy born April 20th, 1967 in Long Beach, Long Island, New York). The household name for progressive rock drummer, Mike Portnoy. Known as a drummer with an oddtime signature drum play and technical skill above the average. Founder of Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment. My favorite track from Portnoy is Dream Theater’s Dance Of Eternity. Various fill-in, oddtime signature, intense play, power and everything else on it. As John Petrucci said, if a drummer could play Dance of Eternity, they would be able to play any kind of music genre. After his departure from Dream Theater, he play along with the other musicians such as Russell Allen, Mike Orlando, Rich Ward and Paul DiLeo titled Adrenaline Mob. He also replaced Stone Sour drummer, Roy Mayorga, during Rock In Rio on September 14th, 2011. He even had a jamming sessions with Paul Gilbert, Neal Morse, Matt Bissonette, Daniel Gildenlöw, Dave LaRue, Sean Malone, Jason McMaster, Billy Sheehan, Gary Cherone, and Kasim Sulton in several tribute performances to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rush and The Who from 2003 to 2011.

#Akira Jimbo, ( Jinbo Akira, born February 27th, 1959 in Tokyo, Japan). My first encounter with jazz is Casiopea. Jimbo’s funky drum play amazed me to a certain level. At first, I thought he’s overdubbed his drum play, due to certain song that was rich with lots of drum accessories. But, after saw his drumming video, he did his entire part only in one take. I love his irregular beat, various fill-in, intense play, and unimagineable drum part. He play around in every parts of the drum to create his progressive style. An out of the box drummer..He depart from Casiopea due to musical differences. He formed Jimsaku along with Tetsuo Sakurai who also departed from the band.

#Joey Jordison, (Nathan Jonas Jordison, born April 26th, 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa). First time I heard Slipknot, the drummer catch my ears immediately. His speedy pedals, tight and intense play, crazy fill-in, and lots of others. Cool and calm appearance, but when he played the drums, he’d goes crazy. He thought the unimagineable fill-in into his parts..He had several injury due to his speed double pedals play. Once his ankle was injured during Slipknot’s ‘Blister Exists’ song in 2008 Mayhem Festival, but he kept on playing. Besides Slipknot, he also play guitar in Murderdolls. He also had play along with other bands such as Metallica (replacing hospitalized Lars Ulrich in Download Festival 2004, and playing few songs along with the Dave Lombardo of Slayer), Korn (on their 2007 tour due to David Silveria hiatus from the band), Rob Zombie (replacing Tommy Clufetos for the tour).

#Charlie Watts, (Charles Robert Watts, born June 2nd, 1941 in Islington, England). Simplicity is great. That’s what I thought about The Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie Watts. He may not have a staggering drumsets, but he proved that he’s an awesome drummer with great charisma. Along with The Rolling Stones since 1963, he marked his career as a rock n’ roll drummer with more than 200 millions album sold worldwide. With rock n’ roll added with some rhythm & blues and soul into Rolling Stones music, he played lots of part in his simple drumsets. At first I thought he had standard drumsets with two toms and other accessories, but he goes below that. His sets more likely into jazz drumset. He’s known for his hi-hats play. Beside rock n’ roll, he’s also interested in jazz. He’s a leader of jazz band called ABC&D of Boogie Woogie together with pianists Axel Zwingenberger, Ben Waters, and Dave Green on bass.  He even once had a techno/instrumental collaboration with Jim Keltner on the album titled  ‘Charlie Watts/Jim Keltner Project’.
